Information about the Teifi Chamber Orchestra

Teifi Chamber Orchestra is a group of local musicians with a passionate interest in orchestral chamber music. The group meets every week to study in depth, with coach/conductor Nicola Thomas, some of the works of the great composers from the Baroque, Classical and Early Romantic periods, as well as some contemporary works.
Teifi Chamber OrchestraThe Orchestra was founded in October 2004 and works to charitable ends. It is a strong community project which involves many members of the local community in other related music making activities during the course of each year.

 

Music Director and Conductor

In December 2004 T.C.O. engaged the professional services of music director and professional cellist Nicola Thomas, herself a resident of the area.
Nicola studied a Chethams Music School and the Royal Northern College of Music. She was winner of the Barbirolli and Bach cello prizes and gained scholarships to study with renown cellists Jacqueline Du Pre, William Pleeth and Ralph Kirschbaum.
She is currently cellist with the Archduke Piano Trio of London and music coach and artistic director of the annual chamber music summer school at Rhosygilwen, which draws exceptional students from around the world for intensive study and peformance. 
Nicola has worked with some of the world's foremost ensembles and orchestras including the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, The London Mozart Players and the Brindisi Quartet, touring extensively throughout Europe and America. She has made a more recent appearance at the Wigmore Hall in London with pianist Christopher Osborne and currently works as a freelance cellist as well as a private cello teacher/music director in West Wales. 
Nicola brings a wealth of professional experience as director and conductor of the orchestra and summer school which is reflected in the  raised standards of playing.
